Dear Son:

I know you are sad and you miss me

As much as I miss you.

I know it seems like time goes very slow,

But I have a job to do here for Uncle Sam.

Your mom says you won't play and you are as quite as a mouse

Remember you promised me you would be strong,

And would be the man of the house while I am gone.

Come on and cheer up, for it will make me feel better if you do.

Pretend I am on my way home and be cool.

Go on to school and do your homework too.

Soon I will be home, and we will go fishing at the lake,

Just you and me, then we'll have a party with your friends.

I can tell all of you what I have done and where I have been

We'll just sit around and talk like men.

Pray for all of us here that we will be safe and the war will end.
