A mother is the one who feels the kicks and moves before birth, but what a blessing and a joyful occasion when one comes to earth! She laughs and cries if a boy or a girl. She says, 'I brought you into this world!'

When we fell down and skinned our elbows, or our knees, our mama would give me a big squeeze. She's the one that got up and fed us in the night. She wanted to be sure we were all right.

She taught us not to walk across a neighbor's yard, and to always return the things we borrowed. She did our laundry and cooked our meals. My mama was always there, no matter what.

I hope I told her how I felt.
For she was A True Mother.

This page is dedicated in Memory of Bertha Beatrice Harrington, who cared for 12 children of the 13 she bore. She kept house, brushed our hair, patched and made new dresses for the five girls, darned countless stockings, canned fruits and vegetables, churned butter, raised chickens for the meat and eggs, but she still had time to show us she cared, and raised us up in church.

We know we all caused her some grief. She grieved when the boys had to go to war, or the girls got married and moved away from home, but she was always glad to see us come home again. But then she had to go Heaven to be with the Lord. And how we do miss her every day, but we know that someday we will see her again, for she is waiting for us in her new home in the sky.
